Pastors Reginald & Kelley Steele Share Honest Marriage Advice

Pastors Reginald and Kelley Steele of Kingdom Church in Phoenix joined Erica Campbell on Get Up Mornings to talk about their new book Love Letters: Tips to Make Your Marriage Better from A to Z. After 32 years of marriage, they’re now using their story to help others build lasting, God-centered relationships.

The Steeles shared that the idea behind the book is to make marriage lessons simple and accessible. One chapter that stood out to them was “B is for Bending.” Pastor Reginald explained, “We live in a time where people are selfish, but in marriage, you’ve got to be selfless.” He shared a personal example about going to play pickleball with his wife, even when he didn’t want to, as a small but meaningful act of compromise.
The couple didn’t shy away from discussing the difficult parts of their journey. Married as teenagers, they experienced serious challenges early on, including infidelity and domestic violence. Kelley revealed, “The Lord told us our wickedness would cover others,” explaining how they found healing through honesty and vulnerability. “We’re overcomers by sharing our story,” she added.

Transparency, they said, has played a major role not only in their relationship but in their parenting as well. Their children have witnessed their growth and healing firsthand, which has helped shape a healthy understanding of love. Kelley noted that their home prioritizes “hard conversations”—a concept they highlight in the chapter “H is for Hard Conversations.” She said they don’t believe in avoiding issues, but rather facing them to find resolution.
For those wondering if they’re just talking theory, the Steeles are living proof that tough seasons can be survived. Reginald reminded listeners that marriage goes through seasons: “Every marriage is going to have a summer, winter, spring, and fall. Don’t let a bad chapter end the story.”
